Dances & Music

North West Clog Morris Dances mainly consists of either the Rant step (Polka step) or the single Skip step (Hop step). The actual dances celebrate our local towns – Ashton, Dukinfield, Failsworth, Micklehurst – and in the past, would have been only danced in that particular town. Today there are also dances named after features of the landscape and other aspects of local life – Quick Edge, Desperate Dan, Flaggy Fields.

Musicians

Much of the music is from the English Country Dance repertoire, but there interesting additions from the Music Hall tradition.

So as to be heard above the clatter of clogs and clinking pint pots, North West Morris has developed a robust rhythmic musical accompaniment performed on a variety of instruments such as melodeon accordion, fiddle, flute or brass, assisted by all manner of percussion.

Any musicians who might wish to squeeze, blow or fiddle are welcome to join us.

  • About

We are a group of ladies who love to dance traditional clog morris in the North West style. Our dancers come from several towns around, all of which in the past were thriving cotton mill towns, hence the name.
